Maintenance Day

I have such a gorgeous brand refresh to share with you today for my incredible Artful Branding & Website client, Olivia Beyers Photography.

Olivia is a Minnesota based wedding & dog photographer- so it’s safe to assume we hit it off right away. She specializes in classic, timeless, and intentional true-to-color imagery that withstands the test of time. Using a vibrant color scheme, typographic logo, and a stunning submark, we positioned Olivia’s brand as a high-end with the goal of appealing to a sophisticated clientele. The end result is a photography brand that beautifully mirrors her aesthetic and invites potential couples to experience the luxury Olivia has to offer.

When Olivia approached us for a brand refresh, she felt her existing brand no longer conveyed the quality of her work or her vision. Upon seeing her stunning fine art imagery, we knew we could create a brand that truly reflected her vibrant imagery and the high-end wedding experience she provides. Together we breathed new life into her brand to create a refreshed identity.

Goals

It’s always my goal to learn about my client’s process and their long term vision before I make any design decisions so I know the brand will solve a problem for them and truly attract their ideal client. Our project goals included:

• Refresh Olivia’s brand and website to reflect her expertise and welcome potential clients into an elevated wedding experience

• Raise the perceived value of her brand so that Olivia could feel more confident in her business and attract her ideal clientele with her new identity

The Design Process

With these goals in mind, I selected each design element with intention. I started with selecting the color palette- drawing inspiration from Olivia’s imagery.

For the main font of the brand, we knew we wanted the typeface to be an elevated serif with elegant custom type treatments. We started with a beautiful font as our foundation, and created a bespoke typographic logo and one of my favorite submarks to date.

Here’s what Olivia had to say about working together…

How did you feel about your brand before we started working together?

I liked my brand before I started working with Katie, but I felt like it was no longer an adequate representation of myself within the brand. Over the years as I’ve grown and gained experience, it was time that my brand grew up too. 

What was your experience like working with Katie?

It was seamless and efficient! Katie was really receptive to my ideas and feedback and made changes when necessary. I had a really hard time narrowing down my logo, but she was very patient with me and kept making the small tweaks I needed to see all of my options. I always felt heard when I was working with her or sharing my thoughts, and I think that really translated into our final designs. 

How has working with Katie changed the way you think about your business?

I certainly have a lot more brand confidence now! I always believed in my business and my services, but I feel much more aligned with everything now. I also think my business is finally starting to appeal to my ideal clientele, which makes me even more confident! 

Would you recommend hiring Katie as a brand designer? Why?

I would 100% recommend hiring Katie! It was important to me that I hired someone who wasn’t part of some big machine. I didn’t want to feel like just another task on her to-do list. Like I said before, she validated me, offered expert advice, and really helped bring my inner thoughts into the design world. Katie is just as beautiful and kind as her website and I can’t recommend her enough! I know I’ll be using her in the future too.
